Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Europe with more than 3000 years and everything has started in the neighborhoods of Alfama and Mouraria.  The Phoenicians, the Romans, the Visigoths, the Moors were some of the civilizations who lived around here and have left their influence until  Lisbon was conquered by D. These are also the areas better preserved after the Great Earthquake of Lisbon, in 1755 and they haven’t changed much since.
From the shores of the Tagus river up to S. Jorge Castle, you will have the opportunity to feel the mix of cultures so unique to Lisbon.
The charming narrow streets, the famous “azulejos” on the walls, the clothes hanging on the balconies, the old fashion trams, the many steps up and down, the delicious local food, the friendly locals and the soul of the Portuguese culture, Fado.

Belém Free Tour

The birthplace of the discoveries

3 hr

Tue, Thu, Sat and Sun at 10:30

Portugal was the first global empire in the world, and everything
started in this lovely district called Belém. Vessels left its harbors to
navigate through the unknown, to cross the dangerous of the oceans and discover new land, building churches, forts and cities, making Portugal one of the most powerful Empires in the World.

It's considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the city, with its many historical buildings and famous Unesco heritage sites, the Jeronimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém. Both were idealized by King D. Manuel I and built in a unique architecture style that become to be known as the "Manueline Style".

Those two sites would be enough to convince anybody to visit this area, but we also see the incredible Monument to the Discoveries, the impressive Presidential Palace, the modern Maat (Museum of Art, architecture and Technology), the Compass Rose and the delicious and famous "pastéis de nata" from the original shop. We’re sure you will find really hard to forget this place.

For the Belém Free Tour, booking is required.

We need at least 4 people booked to run this tour.

For groups of more than 6 people, send us an email.

We need to take the train to go to Belém and normally takes a long          time to buy the ticket in the train station. We recommend to buy the Viva Card and charge in any metro station the option ZAPPING (the amount is 5,00 euros) before the tour.
